CANDLELIGHT CEREMONY
On
Sunday
the 21st of May 2006
thousands of communities around the world will come
together in solidarity to light candles and remember
those that have been affected by HIV/AIDS. This is an
event celebrated annually by over 3000 communities in
more than 85 countries around the world. The Global
Health Council has calls upon the international
community to observe International Candlelight Memorial
on the 21st May 2006.
The event focuses on honoring the lives of the people lost to HIV/AIDS. It
has helped communities to have a forum to honour the memory of those lost to
HIV/AIDS, show support to those living with HIV/AIDS, raise awareness of the
disease and mobilize individuals to rally behind a common goal of responding
to the impact of HIV/AIDS.
This years theme is:
Lighting
the Path to a Brighter Future
Botswana Network of People Living with HIV/AIDS (BONEPWA+)
in collaboration with other
stakeholders has taken the initiative to organize this event in Botswana.
